Sentar Receives ESGR Patriot Award from the Department of Defense

Joe Sabin Recognized by DoD for Outstanding Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)

Huntsville, AL – January 19, 2018 – Sentar, Inc. (Sentar), a Women-Owned Small Business, announced today Joseph (Joe) Sabin, J.D., Portfolio Manager for Sentar’s Cybersecurity and Health IT Programs, has been awarded the Service Member Patriot Award by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense (DoD) program. The Patriot Award is given after nomination by an employee who serves in the military and recognizes the effort to support members of the Guard and Reserve through flexible scheduling, time off before and after deployment, and caring for families and granted leaves of absence, if necessary.

Sabin was nominated by James (Jim) Flaherty, Subject Matter Expert IV. Jim is responsible for managing incident management Compliance processes, implementing information technology security assurances and consulting on continuous monitoring activities for the Defense Health Agency.

“Joe has always been flexible and understanding of my military obligation, which occasionally takes me away during normal work days, and allows me to make up time missed, or even telework when possible,” said James when asked why he chose to nominate his supervisor. “Joe keeps me informed of what is happening with the company and my team while I’m away and supports me personally by showing concern and offering help with handling my children while I’m away. He is high of character and one of the most supportive bosses and colleagues I’ve ever had.”

Established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment, this award recognizes the contribution of employers to National Security and to protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force.

“As an employer to some of our Nation’s finest citizens, it is our responsibility to provide extensive support to employees who feel called to serve our country,” said April Nadeau, VP (DHA, SPAWAR, Navy and Marine Corps). “Joe’s support for James displays his strength as a leader and the care he shows his employees.”
